Thu, 18 October 2007  Everybody’s talkin’ about Essen, and here we are…it’s the Game Log, the News, a review of Duel in the Dark and a continuation of the Why Do I Hate This Game Contest for Winner’s Circle. Entries have been piling up, and at the end of this podcast, I mention that the contest will end before the next episode. That’s not true anymore, but you’ll know why in a bit. So join the Guild and do what you got to do to enter!I mentioned a blog by Jeff F. called Counters and Characters, though I think I called Counters and Chits or Chits and Counters and hey, you know chitshappen, so that’s entirely my fault, and his blog is great, and I want you to check it out and comment and show him some love. I also mentioned On Board Games, which has THREE hosts, * Donald Dennis, Scott Nicholson, and Erik Dewey, and I’m sorry to have perpetuated the star system on you guys. It’s a great podcast and worth your time for a more in-depth treatment of the news of the day. Furthermore, I mentioned The Metagamers, with Mark Haberman, Jay Little, and of course, our own (interviewed here to the tune of Sterno) Jim Cote (Mr. Ekted). I simplify games when I introduce them to the adults I play with. They are all skittish about new stuff, especially my husband. He always wants quick and easy. So I try to break a new game down to the most basic mechanics. Then when we've played through once, my husband (King of the House Rules) will usually say, "This game would be even more interesting if you were allowed to do XYZ." That's when I tell him that you ARE allowed to do that but I didn't mention it because he wanted an easier game :-).

I wanted to comment on your soul-searching. I really appreciate that you concern yourself with questions like, “Where do I fit in the world of boardgaming podcasts?�, and “What is it that I contribute to the conversation?� These are the types of questions all podcasters should ask themselves. However, I would like to suggest that you definitely have a place at the table. You state that you listen to a lot of podcasts. I'd be surprised if you listen to more than I do. Either way, I can say without reservation that you are contributing something valuable to the community. I really enjoy and look forward to your podcasts. Whether or not doing a podcast fits into your family and church schedule is a question I cannot answer. However, I can answer the question of whether or not your podcast is relevant. If a listener's encouragement will help convince you to continue, please consider yourself to be so encouraged. You are interesting, humble, entertaining, and genuinely excited about our wonderful hobby. One thing that I really love about your podcast is that you are not afraid to mention other podcasts and blogs. In fact, you seem to go out of your way to comment on the wider world of boardgame podcasting/blogging. Hey! This might be an idea for a new segment! Anyway, this is just one example of the unique quality of your presentation. I hope you'll hang in there and keep the LWC going. Also, I wouldn't worry about your podcast being released in the same week as any other. The Dice Tower may be the tallest building on the block at the moment, but the Cube Tower is growing, and may well be the most colorful. Keep up the good work my friend.
